Made in MS: Delta Dirt Shirts

Delta Dirt Shirts has become a success for a good cause creating peach-colored clothes from Mississippi clay.

During a hurricane, a Hawaiian T-shirt shop lost all its products. They found their shirts scattered and marked by Hawaiian mud. After hearing this story, Delta Dirt Shirts owner Kendra Reed thought of the distinct red clay of Mississippi soil and knew it would make a strikingly stained T-shirt.

“Mississippi seemed uniquely poised to have dirt shirts because the cotton is grown here,” Reed says. “The red clay is so pretty and stains well. There’s so much local talent to create the designs that it seemed like the ultimate Mississippi souvenir.”

Delta Dirt Shirts creates peach-colored pieces stained from Mississippi mud that feature artwork from local artists Drew Landon Harris, Don Jacobs and Carrie Chennault. In addition to the clay-stained shirts, Reed creates and sells her Mississippi Strong collection. Profits from these shirt sales go to support people after local disasters like the March 2023 tornado.
