Did You Know There’s a “Little Grand Canyon” in MS?

Nestled in Foxworth, Mississippi lies a natural phenomenon reminiscent of its larger counterpart, the Grand Canyon: Red Bluff Canyon.

Just outside of Foxworth, there’s a hidden natural treasure: Red Bluff, also known as the “Little Grand Canyon” of Mississippi. Though not as deep as the actual Grand Canyon, Red Bluff boasts similar reddish hues (as well as other colors in the soil) and awesome views. The result of natural erosion of the Pearl River, the Red Bluff Canyon is currently over 150 feet deep and counting. The canyon in Mississippi is still expanding as erosion continues over time. In fact, the state has been forced to relocate a major highway twice as a result of its expansion.

Because Red Bluff is located on private property, hiking is prohibited. However, it’s easy to view the canyon from roadside parking areas off Mississippi Hwy. 587.
